Marinus IO Limited (company number 17101302) ("Marinus", "we", "us", or "our") operates the Marinus Chrome extension, the account dashboard at account.marinus.io, the website at marinus.io and the backend services behind them (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, Marinus is the controller of the personal data described here.
Account information. Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google provides. You can also set a display name.
Profile and settings. The Instagram handle you link, the niches, favourite accounts and hashtags you choose, your comment tone, language and break preferences, your notification preferences and reminder time zone, and how you have arranged your dashboard.
Tasks and activity sessions. The tasks Marinus plans and carries out for you: the URLs of posts and profiles, the comments and replies we generate (and any edits you make to them), the comments they reply to, each task's status, and any feedback you give on a task.
Instagram page data. While a task runs, the extension sends our backend a simplified description of the interactive elements on the current Instagram page (for example, button labels and nearby text) so the right button or field can be chosen. It only does this on instagram.com, only for tasks you have queued or approved, and does not read your direct messages or track your browsing anywhere else.
Your Instagram metrics. Public figures about the Instagram account you link, such as follower count and likes and comments on your recent posts, which we collect daily to show your growth on the dashboard.
Billing information. Your plan, credit balance and purchase history. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
Support and suggestions. Messages you send to the support assistant, and any request or suggestion you submit through the dashboard.
Technical and usage data. Logs and traces of the requests the Service handles, including errors, task success and failure, and which features you use, linked to your user ID so we can fix problems and understand cost.
To find accounts and posts relevant to you, the Service reads publicly available Instagram content: public profiles (handle, name, bio, follower and following counts, whether the account is private), public posts and captions, and public comments. We keep a shared record of public profiles we have looked up, together with an automated estimate of which topics each account covers, so we don't have to look the same account up again. We do not collect anything that isn't publicly visible on Instagram.
If you are an Instagram account holder and would like us to delete what we hold about your account, or to stop processing it, email support@marinus.io with your handle.
Our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (providing the Service and billing); our legitimate interests (security, improving the Service, finding public accounts relevant to our users, and the shared profile record described in section 2); your consent where we ask for it (for example, notification emails, which you can switch off in Settings); and compliance with legal obligations (for example, keeping financial records).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Post captions, comments, your tone settings and simplified page data are sent to AI providers (listed below) to generate comments and replies and to choose which element on a page to click. These providers process the data to return a result to us. We do not use your data to train our own models.
The Chrome extension stores the following on your device using chrome.storage.local:
These are sent only to our backend and database, to authenticate your requests. Signing out on the dashboard clears them.
The extension's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data collected through the extension is used only to provide and improve the Service's single purpose, and is never sold, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness.
We share information with the following providers only as needed to run the Service. Each processes it under its own privacy terms:
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to it.
Some of our providers process data outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
We keep your account, settings and task history for as long as your account exists. Simplified page data is used to answer a single request and is not kept, except in our logs. Logs and traces are kept for a limited period by our observability provider. We keep billing records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard (Billing → Change plan → Delete account). This cancels any subscription and permanently deletes your account, settings and task history. Records of past payments remain with Stripe as required by law. The shared record of public Instagram profiles described in section 2 is not tied to your account and is refreshed or removed over time.
We protect data with encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS), row-level security on our database, restricted access to backend-only tables, and signed webhook verification for payments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email support@marinus.io. We will respond within one month. If you are in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, to your local data protection authority.
Marinus is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new "last updated" date, and tell you by email or in the dashboard before any material change takes effect.
Questions about this Privacy Policy or your data can be sent to support@marinus.io.
